People amaze me.
I love nature, I really do. I love people who love nature. I love people, who love people, who love nature. I can spot them from a mile away. Maybe the person is using an Osprey backpack while riding their bike to work. Maybe they have a bumper sticker from the Hoh Rainforest. Maybe they just have some dirt left under their fingernails. Occasionally, I will see someone with a sunburnt face, aside from the raccoon eyes that their goggles left. No matter what the case, I love seeing people around town who live the life that I do, as a nature enthusiast.
I guess that is why this story concerns me. (Link http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-2480908/Are-taking-piste-Wearing-goggles-tanning-booth-fake-ski-tan-effect-bizarre-new-beauty-trend.html)
Women in England are starting to take ski goggles to tanning beds to appear as if they have been out and about in the mountains, while actually never leaving town. Skin cancer risks aside, this is just insane. If you want to look like you have been in the mountains, go to the mountains. Do not try to pretend you are a part of a lifestyle because you think it is cool and fashionable. The sunburnt faces of mountain climbers and skiers are worn like a badge of pride. We walk around, fully aware of the silliness that is our faces, but these women are doing it to themselves to pretend they had a great vacation.
If you want to look adventurous, try being adventurous. We live in an amazing time, where we can travel the world and experience everything. Don’t wear goggles to tanning beds. In fact, don’t go tanning at all. Save that money, book a trip and get your face sun-burnt with ski-goggle lines the old fashioned way, at a real ski resort.
