10 Must See Olympic National Park Wildflower Hikes

Olympic National Park is best known for the green, wet and moss-draped trees of the rainforest. Huge maples, consumed by moss, line trails of cedar and fir trees that tower over the forest floor, full of elk, ferns and banana slugs. Down river, visitors to the park fall in love with Olympic National Park’s sea-stack beaches that make the Oregon Coast look pedestrian. While the coast and rainforest are amazing, no journey to Washington State’s most diverse National Park is complete without a trip to the sub-alpine region during wildflower season.

Wildflower-filled valleys, colorful enough to make even a dog appreciate the millions of hues, erupt in Olympic National Park, providing stunning views for the millions who visit the park each year. Olympic National Park is the 6th most-visited National Park in America, and on a sunny day standing in wildflowers as far as the eye can see, it is easy to understand why so many visit this lush, green corner of Washington State.

While your first instinct may be to stick to the low lands for flowers, the true beauty of the region starts to shine at the higher elevations. The flowers start to bloom in late June, erupting in a mind-blowing explosion of color in mid to late July. Seeing these spots in person, high above the rainforest below is an experience like none-other. With this much beauty at a high elevation you, like everyone else, will be tempted to have a Sound of Music moment. The hills are alive, so come visit them.
